Disney Fantasia

When thinking about sound and art I instantly thought of Disney's 1999 Fantasia movie made with the only audio being classical music which informed the design and movement of all the scenes.

The whole movie feels more grown-up to the classical Disney we all know and love. The use of colour throughout to set the mood is used perfectly along with the animation movements working perfectly alongside the music.

I was somewhat obsessed with this movie from a young age due to how different it was and relaxing to watch. When the water would crash perfectly with the cymbals it was like visually seeing the sound waves from the piece.

Music

Music is sound and has also had a lot of movements within it over the centuries. Ranging from the blues to pop and punk it's always changing and evolving with the times and musicians.

People find comfort in music if it's to help them through something or it's a song you shared with a loved one for example AC/DC thunderstruck always reminds me of being on holiday with my Grandad in bad weather. Queen always makes me think of my Grandma too we all have links with songs.

Artists new like Lizzo and Yungblud have helped a lot of people with their identity. Lizzo singing about body positivity and wearing things that aren't deemed attractive for a plus-size body. Yungblud for making a safe environment for his fans and creating songs for the LGBTQ+ community along with breaking the norms and wearing more feminine clothing like Harry Styles and David Bowie. People like David Bowie and Prince broke gender norms too Bowie became an anodyness icon and people often thought he was from a distant planet because of this.

Music brings people together as well not just for concerts but for competitions like Eurovision it brings countries together.

Soundwaves

Looking into sound I have spent a lot of time looking at soundwaves and the visual art people have created with them. I really enjoy the flow and movement they have and the curves you get from it the whole piece has a flow to it physically and visually.

It's calming to look at as a piece of art even though it is busy and chaotic it seems to have an order to it.
